The reason why we didnt want an established national religion was because the founders new that one day the government would use it as a tool against its? people. That is what the Church of England was just another arm of the English Government. They would excommunicate anyone who was outspoken against them. One more way to keep control over its subjects.

We can bandy quotes back and forth all night, but nowhere in our constitution does it mention us being founded upon Christian principles, end of story. We wouldn’t be a free nation if we were founded upon a specific religion.
